Happy Holidays everyone!

The Wackies have so much to be thankful for......with all our families and friends and all of our blogging buddies. This year has flown by and was filled with great activities, projects, swaps, purchases, some triumphs and a few losses.

I wanted to take a moment to remember our girlfriend, Jerri who passed away nine months ago. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about her or laugh at something she said or did. Jerri was such a large part of my life. She was the sister I never had, the best friend and traveling buddy and she gave great advice, too. Jerri was the life of the party and I'm so blessed to have known her.

Above is a little movie I made to share with our group a little after Jerri passed away. It's a snippet of her antics and love of living. I'm sharing it with you in the hopes that it will lift your spirits, make you laugh or just spread a little joy.

Wacky Pac Quilters

Today the quilting world lost a prolific and talented quilter. Our dear Wacky Pac Sista, Jerri, lost her battle with cancer. She was such a 'trooper' and defied the odds so many times. She passed peacefully in her sleep at approximately 5 a.m. this morning.

Jerri was the life of the party. She was a fine Christian woman who loved the Lord. She also loved life, loved her family and friends and loved quilting. She was always just a phone call away....she had "Peeps" always available to help in any situation.

Jerri leaves behind a wonderful husband, Rex, who was a true angel. He never left her side. A son and daughter-in-law and two beautiful little granddaughters. She also leaves a whole host of friends who will miss her dearly.

My friend, I'll be seeing you on the other side one day. Put in a 'good word' for me with the Big Guy and tell my Mama I said I miss and love her.

I can't wait to see all the beautiful quilts you will make in Heaven. May you walk the golden streets of Heaven with your family and friends who have gone before you. May you never suffer again and always continue that wonderful laugh and cheerful nature. I will miss you, but I will never forget you. I love you my friend. May you rest in peace.

Have you ever wanted to make a Feathered Star???? Our Wacky, Molly, is very good at making them and was even a tester for Marsha McCloskey. She worked on the block at a retreat and we kept hearing "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha"! I guess you had to be there -- LOL.

Since we are in the midst of the SuperBowl, here is a really good dip recipe that Wacky Kathleen shares:

Beer Cheese Dip

1 pkg (8oz) Cream Cheese, softened

1/4 cup Ranch Dressing

1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese

1/4 cup Beer

2 Green Onions, chopped

Beat cream cheese and dressing in medium bowl w/mixer until well blended. Stir in remaining ingredients. Refrigerate for serveral hours or until chilled.

If you like a little "kick" to your dips, add some jalepeno peppers or green chilies.

A Wacky Christmas Dinner

Seasons Greetings everyone! The Wackies got together for a wonderful dinner last night at a great restaurant in Madisonville, Texas. On the menu was prime rib, boneless pork chops, rib eye, steamed veggies, baked potatoes, salad, mushroom soup, mushrooms, and wine or mixed drinks........yummy.

We decided to eat out and not exchange gifts but just enjoy one another's company. The restaurant was very accommodating, the service excellent, the foods mouth-watering. Needless to say, we had a great time.

This old quilt was one of my first ones from a great book - "Quilts Without Corners" by Cheryl Phillips. This particular quilt is Hopi Sun. This is not a great picture of it because you can't really tell that it's a round quilt. I used a nine degree wedge ruler & I hand quilted it to accomplish this stunning quilt. It took me about a year to choose and purchase the fabrics which I thought was the most fun. The quilt measures approximately 45 inches.

If you're looking to try something different in your quilting world, try something like this.

This Old Quilt

This old quilt, we titled, "The Blue Quilt" for obvious reasons........blue & beige blocks. We donated it to our local Quilt for a Cure fund raising organization 3 years ago. Each "wacky" made 2 blocks each then we had a sew-in to put it together and Kathy L. machine quilted it for us. Note the border applique` of a vine with stars, leaves & red berries and a two-toned blue ribbon. This little extra really tied the quilt together.

This old quilt is actually a quilt top that Kathy L. put together at one for our "Wacky" retreats. She said that it was fun choosing the scraps and easy to put together. She used one of E. Burns' quick methods. This is a fairly large quilt measuring approx. 72"X94".

If you're wondering what this is all about, it's all about "Charm" quilts. The Wackies decided on the next challenge for the fall. Well two of us cooked it up, the rest kind of nodded in confused delirium.......LOL..........our goal is to cut and bag 100 different fabrics measuring 2 1/5 inches for 8 participating Wackies. Even though I was not in the original "cooking up" part, I have been cutting my little buns off. I've bagged the allotted sets of 100 and am now cutting the rest of my own goal of 800 tinny, little squares!!!!!!!!!! Molly, Annie, Kathy and Kath have begun but I'm trying to get there first.......hehehehehehe

This Old Quilt

This small quilt (appox. 36 inches square) was my first try at stitching by hand using the buttonhole stitch around the chickens. I can't remember the exact name of the design or where I saw it in the first place. Maybe someone could help with that but I loved all the different colors and crowns of the chickens. The eggs were something I added because I thought there was too much black sashing.

Take a look at this beauty. I asked Vicki if I could post her mum's Hexagon quilt, which we call Grandmother's Flower Garden.

Vicki says that her mum started the quilt in the 70's and didn't get to finish it. When she passed away in 2005 Vicki inherited the king size quilt top. The pattern is an English pieced hexagon method with lots of fabrics Vicki recognizes from dresses she and her sister wore way back when.

This Old Quilt

This old quilt is one of my favorites. It was a group effort from several ladies from a guild that I was once a member. The quilt started with the eagle and all the other blocks were made from that patriotic theme.

Paper piecing, applique`, templates and other methods were used throughout the process.

I'm sorry to say that I don't have a close-up of this quilt. At the time, it was hand quilted by guild members (me included) and auctioned off to a wonderful couple who collect unique quilts.

I have seen the quilt once since it was auctioned. The couple said that everyone who looked at it were always amazed to see what all went into it.

Her Pink & Black one, she says is really neat because several shades of pink and some reds were used. Can anyone tell us the names of these designs? Remember this design? It's the Lone Star which is usually made from single 45 degree diamond shape. Later methods call for strip piecing which these Lone Stars were made.

The New Lone Star Quilt Handbook by Blanche Young & Helen Young Frost, published by C&T Publishing in Lafayette, California is the book that I used. It's an old one but can be found on eBay or other methods.

This is a the newest of our "wacky" ideas......"This Old Quilt" segment is a look back at our past projects and fond memories. The Double Wedding Ring was my first and only attempt at making one. I was fortunate enough to take a class from a wonderful lady (pictured with me....Lee Fidel). Lee's quilt shop, County Fair, Waco, Texas which is not closed, was my first experience with cotton fabrics and gadgets such as rotary cutters, rulers, cutting mats....I mention those because in the early 1990s I was using scissors and pins. Anyway, the Double Wedding Ring was my second project under Lee's tutelage. I was the only one of 9 ladies to finish my quilt top.......crazy me......LOL.......Where is the quilt top now, you might ask......a long story short, Kathy L., my "wacky sister of the heart" now owns it.

Would I make another, I don't think so but I won't comment to anything at this point.

Yippie Skippy....it's almost time for another "Wacky" retreat. We have already invited the "WestCoastWackies" to join up, in spirit, as we plan on sewing up a storm, eating healthy (sort of), laughing until base-layers are ruined and getting some rest, when needed.

If you'd like to sew along with our groups the date is May 13-17. We'll be out of touch as we'll need to concentrate on some serious sewing time but will take plenty of pics to share with everyone on our personal blogs and the "Wacky" blog.

Apron Fever

Choose a fat quarter, squares or rectangle scraps, one 36"X 6" and two 24"X6" strips of coordinating fabrics.

Before ruffling one of the 36"X6" fabrics, turn under one length of it for a hem. Then stitch it to the bottom of the fat quarter.

Make a pocket from scraps to stitch onto the fat quarter. At this point turn under the rest of the fat quarter for a smooth finish. Finally sew two 24" X 6" length strips together, press in half and attach as the tie band. More prefer long ties on their aprons.

This apron is winging its way to a special friend of mine, so shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

This one, I haven't been able to part with, so far. I did a box pleat on the bottom. I love the look of it.

The Azalea Quilt Show in Tyler, Texas was really great this year. Five of the "Wackies" went and had a great time, as usual. A couple of us took our scissors over and had them sharpened by "The Scissor Guy"........ Hayward Erwin from Riverside, TX. We perused the area, enjoyed the various displays and demos, picked up the scissors then went to lunch. After lunch, it was onto "The Nimble Thimble." Katy, the owner, had a great discount for the quilt show and of course, we took full advantage.

Welcome New Wannabee & Wacky Moments

The WackyPac would like to welcome our newest member of the Virtual WackyPac Wannabees, "Mamacrafty!" Make sure you pop over and check out her blog and give her a warm "wacky" welcome.

This past weekend, several of the "Wackies" went on retreat at the "Deer Camp" that we love so much. It's so peaceful, restful and isolated enough to put in some serious sewing time.

Kathy, and don't ask how this picture was taken, had just finished a project of "Churn-dash" blocks which were by the way, 3" square each. Notice the secondary pattern.

I am posing is this sill outfit because I mistakenly packed the swimsuit cover up with hoody instead of my white robe. But as cold as that first night and morning were, it served me well.

Annie's showing off this fabulous quilt with the fussy cuts in the stars. This pic doesn't do it justice.

Jerri forgot that her sewing machine, though very capable of many beautiful stitches, does not wind bobbins by voice command and doesn't take to kindly with her holding tight to the thread instead of allowing the automatic tension to take over.

Kathleen hasn't decided what she's viewing as she moved the camera closer and closer to her eyes while adjusting her glasses...........been there.....done that!

Wacky Moments

Our "wacky" group member, Molly asked us to look though our pictures to find some of those memorable moments. Since I love taking pictures, have a quite a few.

Doing a double take, are you? So were alot of people on one of our "wacky" road trips to The Dallas fair last year. If you haven't guessed what's going on, I'll tell you. One of us got it into her head that we should all pile into one of those Picture booths and preserve history. Well, let me tell you, that was an impossibility...........piling in, I mean. Four were able to get in, while the other three were laughing so hard, it was "nearly" embarrassing. Someone (not in our group) offered to help cram the rest of our bodies in but, thank goodness, we didn't let that happen. There was not ever going to be enough sucking in, lifting up, or squishing to fit all 7 of us in that tiny, little booth.

Four of our wacky group members got it into their heads to do the "zip-line" thing in one of those wonderful countries we visited on the cruise. Don't they look brave? "Off they go into the wild green jungle.....off they go into the trees!"
Of course I can't show you the after picture.........to messy...........just kidding.

What was I thinking just now? Does anyone know what I was thinking? Are ya'll listening to me, at all?

Wacky Moments

Our Wacky Molly....not that she is well, really wacky, just not quite normal, .....suggested that we all post pictures (that showed my age!)....er, uh photos of different Wacky Moments. You know, a virtual scrapbook. Well here we go. I will NOT put names in order to 'protect the innocent'. (yeah, like they are innocent!)

The above picture was taken at the deer camp in 2004. This is before we joined forces with the Brat Pac. We lost one member from this group--long story--don't ask (second from left).

Other starting on the left: Annie-skip-Patty-KathyL-Rhonda-Molly (in front). This group evolved from a group of three (Kathy L, Patty, Molly), then the addition of Rhonda, then Annie. All of the addition must have happened between when this picture was taken in 2004 and

this picture in 2005. This is taken in Padukah Kentucky when we met up with the Brat Pac when we attended the ultimate "Quilt Show". This was the beginning of the group of 9. We have lost two members that are in this picture. Kathy E must have taken the picture. Let me see if I can find one that she is in-------

Here ya go! I do not know what it is so small: Starting second from left: Charlotte, Patty, Jerri, Kathleen, Kathy E, ?, Molly, and Rhonda in front. This is all the Wackie, except Kathy L. and Annie. You know what, I think I am confused about the dates. I NEED HELP FROM YOU, WACKIES. Was the first picture that Annie is included in after this trip to Padukah? I know she would have gone if she were part of the group. Let me hear from you. What about the years, do you have any idea when these pictures were taken?

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY AND MORE --FINALLY!

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY FROM ALL THE WACKY PAC to you. I am in charge of the WP blog this month and so far I have not done very well. No excuses, but taking care of my 82 year old mother with extreme dementia has been a trial this month.

The WP activity has also been a little slow lately. We had a retreat planned for this weekend and slowly, but surely everyone (but two) canceled out. Life just gets in the way sometimes and sometimes we are just not determined enough to make it happen. The deep camp retreats are not as EASY as some retreats as we have to FEED ourselves so that means fixing and bringing food. It's just a lot of hastle. After our monthly Dinner with Drinks on Wacky Wednesday, we did schedule another retreat in March. I, for one, am ready to be determined to attend this one. I will go to the deer camp to retreat if I have to go by myself! (which very well might happen). I will let you know how THIS goes over. I expect lots of Wacky Comments, so get ready!

For my month as moderator of the blog, I planned to introduce you to all the Wackies. This will be a personal introduction by me and will include information that they each provide to me. I am adding some information that I know personally as they are so humble that they leave out some of their best attributes. I have some ready, but am having trouble with my internet service and it is not fast enough to transfer a word document to a PDF. Now that is pitiful! When I can make this happen, I will post the info on the side bar so that you can personally get to know the Wackies at your convenience.

My first victim will be RHOND A.

This girl is a hoot! She keeps us entertained. From the casting out of demons, to her stories about Aunt Pinkie. There is never a dull moment. It's not wonder we don't want to retreat without her.

You stay tuned now. Don't give up on me. I will get this done. Now that I have told you about it, I have to follow through. I will also have to show you the picture of Rhonda when she fell out of her quilting chair. YES, YES, she was alright. It was hilarious!!

Last night was "Wackies Night Out" at our favorite jaunt, Gilberto's. There were only 5 of us but we managed to laugh until our base-layers were endangered (private joke). Here's our pic of the night. Kath is sporting a stuff jalapeno and a child's cup of cold milk.

Before our waiter brought out the milk, Kath was stealing everyone's water and gulping them down as fast as she could swallow. Next time Kath says that she will order a burger.

Without further ado (I think that's a word), here is the official WEST COAST WACKIES. I hope that you will visit them here.

Lani contacted the Wacky Pac Quilters of Texas and asked permission for her group to become the West Coast Wacky Pac. Of course, she had to be a "Wacky Wannabe" first as a probationary period. Then, the Wackies of Texas, met and had a drink (or three), discussed, cussed, disagreed, agreed and prepared a "swearing in ceremony" for them. We have received "official" word that the ceremony took place and all these lovely West Coast ladies are now "official" (love that word) WEST COAST WACKIES! Welcome to our world of wacky quilting our new friends!!!!! We are very happy to have you!!!

We really wanted to use some big ole fancy words in this "official" (there it is again) announcement, but (as our Wacky Jerri says) it is really hard to work 'campo phenique" into a sentence. HEY.....we heard that.......we can't spell you say?????.....hey were are quilters not English Majors!!!!

Wacky Wednesday

Yesterday was Wacky Wednesday. The 2nd Wednesday of each month, the Wacky Pac Quilters of Texas get together for dinner and drinks, show 'n tell, exchanges, etc. For 2009, we are exchanging 9-patch blocks -- any fabrics -- with the five squares being dark fabrics. It was quite an accomplishment for us to exchange these blocks! We pass them around the table and it usually ends up a mess -- but it always gets straight -- after LOTS of laughter.

Last night we had some show 'n tell for the 2008 swap -- string block swaps.

One of our Virtual Wannabees asked me if it would be possible for the Wannabees to participate in a Pincushion Challenge. After thinking about it of, oh, a few moments, I, too, thought it was a great idea. The Wackies had a great time with the project, hunting patterns, trying to keep each design a secret......you know, the things girlfriends love to get into. Anyway, the "Wackies" came up with a way for the Wannabees to participate and join in the fun.

First and foremost, you are under no obligation to participate, so don't feel pressured.

This challenge will start after Christmas and will end on February 5, 2009, 8PM.
Wow, that's a long time, someone might think but if you are like me......the longer you have to ponder, make a few pincushions just to get your feet wet, change your mind on a design.....etc., the better it will be in the long run.

Above are links on how-to make pincushions. Mind you, these are only suggestions for the challenge. We tried to find tutorial and lots of pictures with instructions.....LOL.
The challenge is to step out of your comfort zone and try something that you would normally shy away from. The links will help you get some ideas on what to do.

Rules/Conditions:

You may enter up to 3 pincushions. Your pincushion(s) may incorporate techniques such as cross-stitch, needlepoint, crochet, quilting, embroidery and/or bead work, for example.

Pincushions must be made by you not store bought.

A picture of each pincushion will need to be posted on our Virtual Yahoo Group with a description of the method used. (More on how-to post your picture later)
Your pincushions will be posted on the WackyPac blog by a "WackyPac" member. We love showing off great work!

A Viewers Choice Poll may be used as a tool for judging the pincushions. This process is just for fun with no real criteria involved other than inviting your friends to pop over here and vote for your "pincushion."

All pincushions will need to be finished and posted by February 5, 2009, 8PM. (No exceptions)

Virtual Awards will follow the final results.

Our "wacky" pal, Kath loves kits. She bought this one a few months ago at Common Threads in Waxahachie, Texas. The directions were easy to follow and the quilt went together like a dream. Of course the fabrics are ThimbleWar and CivilBerry. If you're confused with the fabric description........so am I.......LOL.......I can't tell them apart unless I read the side labels.

BTW, no, this is not Kath's sewing studio. This was taken on a recent retreat.

Crazy Quilt

Kathy L., one of our Wacky members who doesn't have a blog.....I know it's crazy but she doesn't......anyway we did a little show & tell at our Christmas Party and this quilt Kathy made in no time. She is our fastest member when it comes to making a quilt. She is also our long-arm quilter. Very convenient for us. Kathy is a sweet soul who would bend over backward to help with any project we get into.

Of course, the picture doesn't do this Thimbleberry fabric justice.....or is it Civil War fabric......no, I know it's ThimbleWar/Civilberry. I always get them mixed up.

The Art of Pincushions

Today the "wackies" celebrated our annual Christmas party. As you can imagine there was plenty of food, much laughter and a few tears. Molly challenged us to make pincushions this year. Trust me, this was much easier that her previous ideas. Here's the results from those who chose to participate.

Christmas Give-away

This table runner could grace your table, mantle or be draped over the back of a sofa in time for the holidays. All you have to do to get your name in the hat, so to speak, is leave a comment on this post. Quick Table-runner Part3

Stitch around trees and trunks before you sew all units together. It's easier to manipulate that way.

Next, choose a fabric for the ends of your runner. Cut two 4 1/2" by 8 1/2" and sew to either ends. Note the creased area. This will help with the next step.

Using a ruler with a center angle line, place ruler onto the center fold and the edges of the ruler will match the edges of the fabric. Trim off.

Edges should look like the picture. You can round off the pointed edges, if you like.

Now, choose a backing and of course the batting. Suggestion: For table runners, a thin batting is recommended. This makes it easy to set objects on runner that are flat.

Layer the top, batting and backing together. Secure them in place in order to quilt, using pins or clips. An alternative is a bonding spray as shown in picture. It is fast, doesn't gum up your needle and will evaporate within days.

Quilt table runner in desired method. This picture shows machine stitching every half inch or so. The trees and trunks are not quilted, lending the puffy effect.

Finally, bind the runner in matching backing fabric or a contrasting fabric. Runner measures roughly 8 1/2" X 40".

Quick Table-runner Part2

(1) Sew the units of twos into units of fours as shown in picture.

(2) Choose four shades of green from your scrap bag. Press.

(3) Trace or draw your own version of a pine tree. Remember whimsical is just fine.

(4) Using Steam-a-seam, trace tree pattern onto adhesive leaving enough space so that each tree can be cut apart for one another.

(5) Follow the manufacturer's instructions and press each tree pattern to the back of each green fabric. Cut and place onto the 4 units of tone-on-tone.

(6) Choose a brown fabric for the trunk. Use Steam-a-seam again. I did not use a pattern for the trunks. Just free-hand it or use a ruler.

(7) Place each trunk with each tree. When you are happy with placement, press. You now have 4 units as shown in picture.

A BIG WELCOME to all of you Wacky Pack Wannabees! I'm so excited that sew many of you are wanting to be a virtual member of our group. I hope you realize what you are getting into! LOL! It's a CRAZY group. I don't have any blood sisters, but these girls are as close as they come. We have lots of fun together and you never know what will happen next. We love to quilt, share ideas/projects, laugh (to the point of moistening our underlayers--LOL), and just have FUN. I hope you enjoy your time with us.

I want to publicly thank my WP Sisters, Molly and Rhonda, for all the work they have been doing on our WP blog. Ya'll are doing a FANTASTIC job. When my turn comes up, ya'll have created some really big shoes to fill!

Quick Table-runner

Let's make a quick table runner for the holidays. Our project will measure roughly 8 1/2" X 34". Remember, I said roughly. We bloggers understand that terminology, right......LOL The construction of the top should take about 3 to 5 hours. But if you have little interruptions such as making dinner, shopping for groceries or the daily chores of cleaning, as I often do, this may take several days. With that in mind, I have designed this project to stretch out over a few days.

(1) Choose several tone-on-tones to beige. Starch and press; (2) Cut sixteen 4 1/2" squares from chosen fabrics. (3) Sew the squares into units of 2 and press seams down. So may prefer to sew the seams open, whichever you prefer.

Trunk Show

My "wacky" friend Jerri talked me into showing off some of my quilts to a group of warm and friendly ladies from a local extension club. I teased the President of the club about her voice which, when she first contacted me, sounded very much like a telemarketer. You can imagine that I was going to hang up on her when she finally mentioned Jerri's name. Anyway, we made quick plans to meet. When I hung up, of course I called my good friend Jerri who promptly apologized and offered to help. However, things didn't work out that way and I wound up doing the trunk show alone but with the full support of the "WackyPac" group from the night before. (Ladies Night Out)

Sorry, I don't have pics of the quilts I showed but the ladies were happy to pose and said that they enjoyed seeing all the quilts and wondered what I did in my spare time.....LOL

Seven of the nine met at our local eatery last night. And of course, we had a blast. It was non-stop at one point. We always sit in the back, in a corner. Trust me, it's better for everyone. We eat, drink and are very merry. Throw in a little Show & Tell, discuss what we want to do for the next couple of months and we all walk away refreshed.

Some of the words we live by are: Keep only cheerful friends because the grouches tend to pull you down; Keep learning all the time. Never allow your mind to become idle because an idle mind is the devil's playground whose name is Alzheimer's; Enjoy the simple things, you know flowers, nature, a sunrise, the full moon. The next one, we really take to heart .... Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you can't breathe and if you have friends who laugh....spend lots and lots of time with them; And surround yourself with what you love.
These are just a few things that keep us young.

Our new members will have a chance to join in the fun and make their own. We will share block patterns, ideas for center blocks and there will be plenty of laughter in the process.

So many have yearned to be a member of the infamous "Wacky Pac". We thought it would be fun to form a VIRTUAL group of all the gals who WANNABEE WACKIES. So we came up the Wacky Pack Wannabees. BUT---------there is certain criteria that must be met. You may be a Wacky Pac Wannabee if--------

1. You are in AWE of the Wacky Quilting Group.

2. You know or want to know the meaning of "MINE"S BROKE".

3. You like to talk about alcoholic drinks more than you like to drink them.

4. You would be willing to crowd into a photo booth with 8 other Wackies.

5. You would perform a group cheer in a crowded elevator.

6. You have ever wondered where the term "Ape S__t" comes from.

7. You take your medication and then wonder what you just swallowed.

8. You love to laugh to the point of moistness.

9. You own 2 to 10 sewing machines and know how to use them.

10. You are gutsy or stupid enough to ride a zip line in Honduras.

11. You perform best when surrounded by all Wackies.

12. You know the meaning of true friendship and value that more with each passing day.

Well, you may not REALLY be able to roll with the Wacky Pack, but now by the virtue vested in me, I now pronounce you a Virtual Wacky Wannabee. Fisher House Donation Quilt

This is the Wacky Packs current donation quilt. Blocks were made by the pack earlier this year on a retreat. Random Red, white, and blue blocks were made and put together by all members. The quilt will be quilted soon and donated to Fisher House, which provides free or low cost lodging to veterans and military families receiving treatment at military medical centers.

This quilt spurred a desire to make Red, White, and Blue quilts for ourselves. We are swapping blocks in February and then each Wacky will make her own quilt for her retreat bed. See some of the members blocks below. These overachievers are finished way before the deadline. We will use for the center a rendition of ourselves using a book by Amy Bradley called Quilters Yearbook.

Using the components of many different drawings of quilters, you make a likeness of yourself. It
will be fun to see the Caricatures we create of ourselves.

MORE RETREATING FUN

Our Halloween Weekend Retreat is over. We are back to the grind stone, so to speak. Working, whether doing laundry, housework, household chores, or jobs, it is definately not the fun time we had at our yearly Quilty gathering. We all got lots done. Some finished Red, White, and Blue Blocks for our swap, some attached borders, and some wrapped up other swap obligations. We also learned some blogging skills from each other. We all assume that we all know what the others know until we get to gether and begin to talk and then we start saying, "WHAT---HOW DO YOU DO THAT?" Also we made a pact to keep up with our group blog better. Each will be responsible for it in a designated month. I am the first one for November so here is my first attempt.
The retreat food was great as, usual. Several recipes were requested to be posted. I will do that as they come in. Here are the first ones:

ANNALE'S POPPYSEED CAKE

1 YELLOW BUTTER CAKE MIX

4 EGGS

3/4 CUP OIL

1/2 CUP SUGAR

8 OZ. SOUR CREAM

1/2 CAN POPPYSEED

JUST MIX ALL TOGETHER AND POUR INTO BUNDT PAN GREASED WITH BUTTER AND SPRINKLED WITH SUGAR INSTEAD OF FLOUR. BAKE AT 350 50-60 MINUTES, DEPENDING ON YOUR OVEN

ANNALE'S

ZUCCHINNI AND CORN QUICHE

4 TO 6 EGGS

1 1/2 CUPS CORN BREAD MIX

1/2 CUP OIL

1/2 ONION, CHOPPED

1/4 CUP JALAPENOS, CHOPPED

3/4 CUP WHOLE KERNEL CORN, DRAINED

1 CUP CHEDDAR CHEESE, GRATED

1/2 CUP PARMESAN CHEESE

1 CUP THINLY SLICED ZUCCHINNI

PREHEAT OVEN TO 350. GREASE OR SPRAY WITH PAM, A 9X13 PAN. LIGHTLY BEAT EGGS. ADD REMAINING INGREDIENTS. SPREAD EVENLY IN PAN. BAKE 35 TO 40 MINUTES UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN.

MOLLY'S CORN SALAD

1 Family sized bag of frozen corn

Red, Orange, Green, and Yellow Peppers, to taste, Chopped

1 small onion, chopped fine

1/2 cup Picante Sauce

1/2 bottle of Paul Newmans Sante Fe Salad Dressing

Add Cheese to your taste. I used Chipolte flavored.

Crumbled Fritos would also be great added just before serving.

Opening Deer Season Retreat

We felt so privileged to retreat at Lakeview Methodist Conference Center. The grounds are scenic, the lodging comfortable and the people friendly.

This area is called the Prayer Circle. It was very peaceful there as you could imagine.

Toast A Rising Star Block Winners

I wanted to post these pictures and thank our wonderful Wacky friend Molly for encouraging us to participate in the TDA (Texas Department of Ag) quilt block contest. As you all have read from our perspective blogs, the contest is held every two years and offers a different theme each time. The wine industries of Texas was the theme this year. Molly prodded, push, cajoled and dragged us along to make blocks. I, for one, just want to participate for the fun of it. I had no illusions of even placing but I didn't want to let Molly down by not even trying.
Low & behold, 3 "Wackies" were accepted and it's all because of Molly. I salute you, Molly.
